Large George III Baronial Fiddle back Mahogany Display Case

I was contacted by a client whom I have worked for for over 20 years asking me to restore a display case

The whole cabinet arrived in pieces from auction

To begin with all the loose veneers had to be secured. Parts of the carcass were falling apart and had to be fixed together with new glue blocks. The shelves were badly stained and needed to be bleached and re-sanded.

All of the keys were missing – new keys were cast and cut for the locks. The entire case was sympathetically cleaned and then re-waxed. All of the original glass was cleaned as well. The piece was transported from Cornwall to Somerset where it was then assembled on-site. The purpose of the cabinet is to display cellos and violins which have been restored.
