GRH Furniture was launched in 2000 by Giles Reynolds-Hart, who has trained and worked in the trade since he was 15.

As a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, the business provides a professional service tailored towards the requirements of the customer, covering Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

A great deal of care is taken to ensure as much of the original construction is kept and that the surface patination is preserved.

It is our aim to respect each piece and give it the attention it requires. Repairs or replacement of different materials such as brass, ivory, ormalue and gilding can also be carried out. We are able to cut and fit keys, ageing them as appropriate and supply period fittings in order to complete the overall look.

I’ve used Giles for over a year now to restore the cases to the clocks and barometers I restore for my own customers. His attention to detail and technical know how shows in the work I receive back from him.

Out of all the jobs I’ve taken him the one that stands out is a longcase clock that had given way at the bottom, and had fallen over on its face. I took this case to him smashed and in a cardboard box, and when I got it back he had carefully reconstructed the case and it was as if it had never been broken.

Exceptional Quality

I recently bought a very large mirror backed display cabinet, built around 1800. An impressive piece costing many thousands. It needed a considerable amount of restoration to the veneers as well as many of the six glass doors didn’t fit at all.

I asked Giles (of GRH furniture) to restore it as best as possible. On its return it was a total transformation. The repairs were invisible, the doors fitted perfectly and the finish was polished beautifully – not over done with an excessive shine but a beautiful deep lustre befitting the quality of the original workmanship.

I have known Giles for many years and he has restored many pieces of furniture varying from a George 1st Secretaire to a late Georgian rocking chair. I always receive exceptional quality craftsmanship with truly professional service.

Enthusiastic

We had a High Victorian grandfather clock that had been through the wars over many years. We inherited it from my wife’s side of the family, and it has always been precious to us. But it did need a fair amount of TLC. Giles was recommended to us by the person who overhauled the clock mechanism, and when he came to take the clock away he explained what he was going to do. He had the casing for a few weeks, and in that time totally restored it, repairing damaged facings, repairing splits, and, through an epic amount of polishing, brought the wood back to life. When he returned the clock, I don’t mind admitting my wife and I were very emotional; it was good to have our old friend back and restored in a way she (to our mind she is a she!) has not known for many, many decades.

Giles is also very enthusiastic about his work, explaining how he went about the restoration. It is clear to us that he knows that the symbolic value of such objects far exceeds their monetary value, and he brings that awareness to his work. Thank you Giles. A complete and caring professional!
